Can I transfer my training from another school?
Yes — we accept students who are mid-training at another school and want to continue their PPL at FFC. Transfers are straightforward provided you can bring your training records with you. In most cases you'll pick up the syllabus close to where you left off, with no need to start from the beginning.
What we need from you
To continue your training at FFC rather than starting afresh, we need the following:
Your student logbook. This is the primary record of your hours flown to date. Every flight you've completed should be entered here with the relevant details.
Your training record or syllabus progress document. This is the document from your previous school showing which exercises have been signed off and to what standard. Different schools use different formats — bring whatever your previous school provided.
Your CAA student registration number. This is issued when you first register as a student pilot. If you've already started training, you should have one.
If you've already sat any of the nine theory exams, bring those results too. They are transferable and won't need to be repeated.
The more complete your training record, the smoother the transition. If you're unsure whether a document is relevant, bring it anyway.
Assessment flight
Before picking up your training from where you left off, we'll carry out an assessment flight with one of our instructors. This is standard practice for all transfer students — it's how we understand where you are practically, so your instructor can place you accurately within the FFC syllabus.
This is not a test you pass or fail. There is no set standard you need to meet in order to continue training. The purpose is to give your instructor a clear picture of your current level, so that your subsequent lessons are pitched correctly from the start.
The assessment is charged at the standard flying rate for the aircraft used.
Will you need to repeat training?
This depends on what your records show and what the assessment flight demonstrates. Our aim is to continue from where you genuinely are — not to send you back to the beginning or to repeat exercises you've clearly already covered.
In practice, most transfer students pick up the syllabus with minimal repetition. If there are specific exercises your records don't cover, or the assessment identifies areas to consolidate before moving forward, your instructor will be straightforward with you about what's needed and why.
Any repetition that does occur is in your interest — the skills test standard is the same regardless of where you trained, and your instructor's job is to make sure you reach it.
Enrolment for transfer students
If you haven't already sat all nine theory exams, the standard FFC enrolment process applies. This covers your CAA student registration — or continuation of your existing registration if you're already registered — along with study materials and a logbook if you need a new one.
Your previous school's logbook remains your official record and carries forward. You don't need to transfer hours into a new logbook — the original document continues to serve as your record throughout your training and beyond.
Get in touch to discuss
Every transfer is a little different. The specifics depend on how many hours you've flown, what your records show, which exercises have been signed off, and whether you've started on theory exams.
If you'd like to talk through your situation before committing, contact us directly. We can give you a clear picture of how your hours and training record translate to the FFC syllabus, and what the likely path to your licence looks like from where you are now.
