How do our Flight Training Costs compare?
How do our Flight Training Costs compare?

We keep our pricing fair and transparent, find out more about how we stack up against the competition

Updated over 2 months ago

Pricing for flight training in the UK is sometimes hard to compare for a number of reasons

  • Prices not listed on websites

  • Old websites with prices not up to date

  • Some providers list only the flight costs and add steep additional charges on the day

Our Advantages

Before we get into how our pricing works, let's talk about our advantages over all competition

We use modern aircraft

Our Tecnam P2002's (and coming late 2024, our Elixir's) are lightweight modern aircraft with fuel efficient engines. We are the only flying school that runs on unleaded fuel. This cuts our fuel costs down dramatically. Modern aircraft have fewer technical problems and spend less time in maintenance than flying schools that use old, legacy aircraft. The average age of a flying school fleet aircraft in the UK is over 40 years old. You wouldn't learn to drive in a 40 year old car, so why learn to fly in an old plane?

We have experienced instructors

Experienced instructors are able to use their training time with you more efficiently, and ensure that you don't have to repeat lessons at your own expense unless absolutely necessary. We pay nearly double what other training providers do to ensure we only get the best candidates. All of our instructors have over 1000 hours experience.

Flexible Scheduling

We use Private Radar to track aircraft and student progress. This enables us to make best use of our classrooms and hardware so we can do more with less. Combined with the modern aircraft mentioned above we are able to train the same amount of students with 2 aircraft that other legacy training providers need to use 4 for.

A great location

Fife Airport is a great location to train from. We don't have problems with the circuit being too busy and we have plenty of airspace around us to practice in without conflict with other planes. Students get a great deal on landing fees as they are included in their membership, this literally saves students thousands over some other schools.

Pay as you train

You can pay as you go with us all the way though our training programmes. As our aircraft are tracked you'll only pay the block time to the minute rather than rounded up like some other providers do. We don't ask for you to pay your training up front, and we wouldn't advise going anywhere that does. You can pay on the day with all major credit and debit cards or get in touch with our team to set up direct debit collection of your flight payments.

How we compare

As we said before, it's really hard to find information on how much flight training costs at all providers. Some are more up front than others. We'd always advise getting in writing what your costs are likely to be if they don't list them online, we have had students who were quoted £240 an hour at a provider and were charged £380 on the day!

We've compared ourselves to ACS Flight Training as they are good enough to list most of the prices online. If you are comparing against others you can contact them to find out what they charge for each section.

We always base any costs on 45 hours flying as this is the minimum requirement for a Private Pilot Licence and over 12 months to account for any monthly costs like membership. We use training rates that are paid for hourly rather than any discount you get for giving a school all the money in advance, as above, we don't advise doing this in any circumstances.

Our Tecnam P2002 and Elixir's are unique to us, so we've compared like for like as much as possible. ACS do offer a cheaper aircraft (Cessna 152,£290 per hour). This schedule is based on our new Elixir aircraft.

Summing up

We believe we offer best value, not just in our pricing but in the aircraft and instructors we use. When looking at flight schools we'd advise getting training rates in writing (including all the sections above) and go and visit them or take a trial lesson.
